National Student Leadership Week

National Student Leadership Week 2014, April 14–20.
Each April, thousands of schools throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe celebrate National Student Leadership Week, sponsored by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), the National Honor Society (NHS), and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). To celebrate the week, student organizations on middle level and high school campuses, especially student councils and honor societies, are encouraged to engage in activities that showcase the many ways that involvement in student leadership helps build a more positive school climate and prepare young people for their roles in life.

National Student Leadership week began on September 26, 1972 when former President Nixon issued a White House Proclamation declaring a National Student Government Day. In 1975, the day was converted from a fall to spring event in preparation for the United States Bicentennial, and in 1979 was renamed National Student Leadership Day. The day was expanded into a weeklong celebration in April 1983 and has continued to be held during the third week of April ever since.

The resources found below are from the 2013 National Student Leadership Week celebration. They will give you and your student leaders examples of the materials and ideas that will be available later this year to support you in planning your own National Student Leadership Week events. Join NASC, NHS and NJHS to celebrate and recognize student leaders this coming April!
